WINTER SPORTS and mountain tourism

Sarajevo's surrounding mountains- Bjelasnica, Trebevic, Igman and Jahorina- achieved world renown after they were the hosts of the winter Olympic Games in 1984. In the course of preparations for the Games, a very well organized and modern infrastructure was built so these mountains are connected to Sarajevo by very good roads.

Enjoy winter sports in beautiful surroundings, and skiing areas which are approximately 1500 and 2000 m above sea level. This enviroment is highly suitable for the development of mountain tourism. This is particulary so when the one looks at the mountains surrounding Sarajevo: Bjelasnica, Treskavica, Jahorina, Trebevic as well as the wider region with mountains such as: Prenj, Cvrsnica, Sator, Cincar, Vlasic, Bitovnja, Pogorelica, Vranica, Zelengora and others.

Jahorina has many modern hotels (with wellness-centres), four ski lifts and 20,000km of ski tracks, suiting the needs of both begginers and experts. Bring Your own ski and snowboard equipments or rent in here.
This mountain offers a unique winter ambiance with facilities for day and night skiing, discoteques, saunas, swimming pools, pool-tables, and exclusive restaurants.
One should not forget however that Jahorina is suitable for visits throughout the year and has the potentional for the development of several types of tourism- Health tourism, village tourism and sports tourism.

Bjelasnica  (2067 m) is an extended mountain range that is covered under an average of 135 m of snow for most of the year.  The mountain range is considered to offer first class conditions for skiing, snowboarding, paragliding, and other forms of recreation. There is an extensive selection of renovated facilities and new hotel apartment complex on Bjelasnica, designed by French architects, opened for the season 2006/2007.
Those who want to avoid crowd on the ski tracks, will find peace and relaxation in a walk towards the peaceful mountain villages with the untouched nature and fascinating panorama.

Vlasic is one of the widest, highest and certanly one of the most beautiful mountains in B-H.  As result of it's plateau (of 500 hectares), the picturesque wooded landscape, rivers and anciant forests, Vlasic was known as a health and recreation resort back in Austro-Hungarian times. Today it boasts the Babanovac winter centre with comfortable hotels, ski tracks ans ski lifts. All this is complemented by night time entertainment- dancing in modern discoteques.
