RELIGIOUS TOURISM
A number of studies have shown that visiting holy shrines is becoming incresingly popular. Bosnia and Herzegovina, as a country which has had the benefit of influences from four major world religions, has a special place. Traditional religious holidays, religious shrines, places of pilgrimage, and various religious ceremonies and rituals, add to B-H's richness and, consequently attract a great number of tourists.
Bosnia and Herzegovina is a magical mix of the great Mediterranean civilizations. One that You can only experience here. One that will fascinate and inspire You!
MEDUGORJE
The story of Medugorje is well known to most Catholics. In June 1981 six teenagers were playing together in the hills between the villages of Medugorje and Bijakovici. It was on this barren hillside that Virgin Mary appeared and spoke to them. When the children told their parents the first reaction was skepticism. The apparitions, however, did not cease. She appeared again and again and soon made believers out of even the most vocal of critics. Since then , Medugorje has become – in addition to Lourdes and Fatima – the most famous place of pilgrimage in the Catholic world. It is estimated that over 15 million people have visited this tiny place. This sleepy Herzegovina village has become the second largest Catholic pilgrimage site in the world. Believer or not, we expect that Medugorje will touch You in a very special way...
BUNA RIVER SPRINGS
Next to which the widely renowned dervish lodge was built combines several tourist attractions. The Buna Spring is one of the largest and most beautiful in Europe and is of interest to all nature lovers, especially to 'cavers' who still have not fully explored the mysterious underground of this veritable water miracle in the heart of Herzegovina. But the Buna also poses a true challenge for Muslims who come here every year in the second half of May to attend 'mevlud' and 'zikr'. The 'mevlud' accounts for the biggest gathering of Muslims in Herzegovina. There is material evidence that people have inhabitated this area for several millennia- this is not surprising given its indisputable beauty, but there are also practical reasons for its attractiveness.
Blagaj is the famous historical and tourist place located in the care of Hercegovina, in the source of the river Buna, 12 km away from Mostar – the capital city of Hercegovina ( approximately 250 km far from Sarajevo ).
Mediteranean climate and comfortable restaurants give pleasant moments of sojourn, walk and relaxation to its quests. The possibilities of hunting, in the Podvelezje plateau and fishing in the river of Buna, then swimming in the clean and cold Buna river and in mineral medicinal water of Bunica are the extra motives to visit this jewel of the nature.
